A Journey through the Catechism

by Fr. Daniel J. Mahan

Fr. Daniel J. Mahan is director of the Institute on the Catechism at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. His book, published by Ave Maria Press in 2024, presents the teaching of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in a question-and-answer format. It builds on Michael Pennock's This Is Our Faith.

The book is organized around the four parts of the Catechism: the Creed, the sacraments, the Christian life and prayer. It runs 480 pages and includes sacred art, tables and photo essays. Ave Maria Press also offers videos featuring Fr. Mahan and a free lectionary guide that links the book's questions to the Sunday readings. In 2025 the Association of Catholic Publishers named it Resource of the Year.

Ave Maria Press designed it for OCIA and adult faith formation, and it also works for reading on your own. Read it alongside the Catechism, one section at a time.
